Could be your keyboard layout is different for french but:
>From the keyboard reading left to right "yuiop[]"
Shifted (meaning holding the shift key down) "YUIOP{}"
Also "67890-"
Shifted "^&*()_"

Also in OpenOffice.org look at "File } New } Math Formula". This opens a
tool which allows complex formulas that can be copied and pasted into
writer. Look at the OO.o website for further documentation of how to use
it.
