Are you using Windows? If so, go to Control Panel > Regioanl and Language
Options > Regional Options. In the middle of the pane there's a list
allowing you to select the "Date separator" character. I'm willing to bet
that yours is set to ".". Change it to "/" and reboot. Now try the Calc
thing again. Better?

If you are not using Windows, I'm sure there is an equivalent setting but I
have no idea where.
