As a Microsoft product IE 7 will not open OpenDocument Format files, however, there is an extension for firefox that will and it works very well. At work I was forced to use a Windows XP MAchine with no OOo, but I could use this extension to view (and copy) an .odt file I had created on my laptop.

However, it would be very simple to write an applet that unzips on odt file and then parses the file content.xml using XSLT as structurally ODF maps very well to HTML, which is not the case MS OOXML.
