One feature of MS Word that has not been ported to OO Writer is the Page
Layout feature that allows one to align text vertically in the middle of
the page, evenly distributed on either side of an imaginary horizontal
line across the middle of the page, as in a title page on a term paper
for example. In my old Word 2000 this feature is executed by going File
> Page Setup.... and selecting the Layout tab and choosing Center from
the Vertical Alignment drop down box.
OO Writer does not seem to replicate this feature. Indeed, when I open a
document created in Word in OO Writer this vertical alignment is lost,
and I have to reinstate it by altering the top and bottom margins or
simply adding blank lines in the section in question. It is not an
irreconcilable incompatibility, but it is a little irksome.
Thankfully, OO Writer does allow the insertion of page and section
breaks similar to Word so that one can have different alignments,
margins, and formats in different sections of the documents.
If anyone has noted this issue as well and has come up with a more
elegant workaround i would love to hear about it.
