Not sure where your problem is occurring or level of detail you desire
so am writing the whole process and maybe you can decide where the
problem is...

o Download OpenOffice.org for Windows XP Pro from the below link
http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.0/contribute.html?product=OpenOffice.org&os=winwjre&lang=en-US&version=2.3.0
(the file that is downloaded should be named
OOo_2.3.0_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe) NOTE: .exe may not appear
on the end

o after download completes "run" the downloaded file
o--- depending on what browser you're using and it's download settings
you may see:
o--- a message remains after the download completes, click the run
button on the message
o--- no message remaining after the download completes, find where
OOo_2.3.0_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe has been downloaded and
double-click that icon
after the file has "run"...

o click the Windows Start button
o select the 'All Programs' menu
o select the 'OpenOffice.org 2.3' sub-menu
o click on the program you want to use, e.g. 'OpenOffice.org Writer'

If the process doesn't happen as described above please indicate where
it breaks down, any messages displayed and responses you made to the
messages. (in other words the buttons clicked to make them go away)
