I am creating a new Base database for my collection of 20 odd thousand URL's
and sites of interest. I am however having a problem in importing or placing
the data, that is in a csv file, into the database.
My csv data is separated by semicolons and is in three columns namely ID,
Description, URL.
I created a table in design view with the above columns but have so far been
unable to imprt data!
I am using OOo.org 2.0.
How can I import the data as there is no chance I am re-entering 20 000
bookmarks?
Ah, yes. Been there, done that except with 450Mb of data in
versions of Paradox, Excel, & Access so you are three steps ahead
of me.
The steps are:
1) Set your options for OOo to display paragraph returns and spaces.
2) Open your file in OOo Writer.
3) Examine every line and make sure that the paragraph marker is
there - add them where needed.
4) Search for and replace semicolons with commas. (I might
actually search and replace the semicolon with a command a space.
Sometimes this can be helpful.
5) Search for and replace all double spaces with a single space.
This take more than one pass to get them all.
6) Save the file as a .txt file.
7) Import into Base.
Best,
Allen
