AFAIK you download the fonts into your operating system (SuSe)
first. It is Xorg that first needs to see them. This will then make them
available for all programs to use, not just OpenOffice.org.

"Nimbus Roman No9 L" is an acceptable replacement for "Times New Roman"
although i am not sure if Windows renders it as "Times New Roman" ie if
you save a OO.o writer file as .doc format using "Nimbus Roman No9 L",
then email it to someone using Word on Windows, what font do they see?

SuSe TrueType Font follow along howto here
http://en.opensuse.org/TrueType

"Times New Roman" is part of the msttfcorefonts package.
If the above follow along doesn't contain msttfcorefonts they are here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/corefonts/

or here as a noarch RPM
