All we can do is try to educate people.  I mention OpenOffice whenever I can and have converted many people to it.  Just yesterday, I was at a customer site and was talking to one guy who runs a Mac at home and also got one for his father.  He had been running a "borrowed" copy of Word.  I also showed him the portableapps.com version.  Perhaps someone who receives my email will notice that icon on my message and become curious.
