It is, as far as possible. However, Microsoft Office is NOT compatible with
the ISO/IEC 26300 file format, a.k.a. ODF (which is international standard
and currently used by OpenOffice and at least 50 other applications). So
your question should (probably) be sent to Microsoft rather than elsewhere.

However, there are some people in the world who also are subscribed to this
list AND who know a bit about Microsoft Office as well. I guess I'm one of
them in some way. They could inform you about that, you could search (with
Google or similar) for an ODF plugin for Microsoft Office. Installing that
plugin will make Microsoft Office more compatible with ODF. As far as I know
there are ODF plugins for Word and Excel, but there are plans for more.
