Do your files have extensions (eg, .doc ; .odt ; etc...). Potentially the
little check box that applies an extension was unchecked.

What happens when you select 'save as' and select a file format - what
happens.

Little more info about operating system and OpenOffice version would be good
as well. Possibly try uninstalling IE7 to see if that corrects the problem
(shouldn't really be the issue tho').
