Yes. Use a default template. Only make changes to the default template.
Question on this approach: If I create a document based on the default
template, then later change a style in the template, is the document
updated with the changed style? I wouldn't have thought that it would
be, but if it is, that could be either a very helpful feature or a very
annoying feature, depending on what one is after in a particular instance.
