This is an slight deviation from the mixed up outline series.
I got the outline issue cleared up, however, I find the TAB (writer) goes
further than I want..... something like the equivalent of 12 spaces with the
space bar.
I would prefer a "tab" of only 6-8 spaces. I've searched all through this
thing's tools and other various and sundry areas, but have found nothing useful.
How can I change the size of the tab??

With an OOo Writer document open, start at "Tools" on the menu bar --
Tools|Options|OpenOffice.org Writer|General
On the right side of the dialog window there will be a box where you can
specify the default tab stop.
Caveat -- If you send your document to someone whose machine is set for
a different default tab spacing, your document will be displayed with
that different spacing. The default spacing does not stay with the
document. It can get ugly.
So, for documents that may be opened on other machines, or if you think
you might someday change the default tab spacing on your own, you might
want to set tab stops explicitly.
I have also seen lots (really lots) of people use default tabs for
indentation at the beginning of paragraphs rather than specifying
indentation in the paragraph style definition. That ties indentation to
any other use of the default tab spacing.
How you use them is a matter of personal preference; I have given up
using the default tabs at all.
