Usually this file association (in Windows) is done by installation. You may try (for complete integration in Windows registry): Please close OpenOffice.org [OOo] (also quickstarter, if enabled) and all programs. Run openofficeorg22.msi (it's inside the folder of the unpacked installation files) with right mouseclick and 'Repair'. File association OOo 2.2.1 and .odt (etc.) should be done.
