I would be curious as to the URL you used to download X11 from
Apple, IIRC X11 for Tiger was only available on the DVD or the 1.1.3
update. Thus it is likely that the version you downloaded was for
Panther. Perhaps that is the source of the version message you are
seeing. Now, as i recall, a default Tiger install left several
[unused] installer packages on the drive - perhaps /Applications/
Utilities/Packages, though my memory is a little foggy there.
Anyway, the proper version of X11User.pkg would be there. Since it's
likely i didn't remember the path right, put it into a Spotlight
search. The 1.1.3 update IS downloadable [ http://apple.com/support/
downloads/x11update2006113.html ], though it is marked as requiring
an existing X11 install. Nonethless, it wouldn't hurt to try. If
that doesn't work, you'll need to borrow a Tiger install disk or
somebody can send you the package sub rosa.
