Didn't know that option existed - thanks for the heads up. Anyways, I went and checked and it was set to Automatic Scrolling. A moment later, I realized the problem was that I had the middle mouse button set to use the Thinkpad's own scrolling feature (Trackpoint or Ultranav or whatever it's called) instead of a normal middle click.
