I've just been scanning financial articles to send to relatives in Oz
with a Canon 8000F which came with Omnipage OCR.
Scanning small smudgey newsprint for OCR can be problematic. The
Omnipage procedure works best to *.doc. Consequently I use this
workaround: it may seem long-winded but as it is all done in
Clipboard it is very quick.
I save the OCR result as a *doc file, copy and insert it into
Notepad; that simple action removes most of the dross. Next copy
Notepad and run Stripmail [which works on the Clipboard] then just
paste the result into the original document sitting open in Open Office 2.3.1
