I'm running into a persistent formatting problem. It is a quote within
brackets, which seems to prevent the sentence from wrapping around in
a normal way.
example:
... to "the awareness of love's presence" (ACIM:Introduction), ...
in this case it is the (ACIM:Introduction), which ends up pulling the
-- presence" -- to the next line, even though there is plenty of space
for the word on the previous line.
Meanwhile, here is a workaround. There is a facility for inserting a
"definite separator" within a word to indicate where hyphenation should
take place when necessary at the end of a line. Type Ctrl+hyphen to
insert this separator just *before* the space where the problem is
occurring - between the closing quotation marks and the space. (Don't
put the separator after the space, or else it will appear as a visible
hyphen in the printed document.)
A better workaround is to insert the Unicode character U+200B ZERO-WIDTH
SPACE which forces a zero-width space (which might be then used by
OpenOffice.org Writer to produce a line-break) but makes no other change
in text appearance. You don’t have to worry about this ever becoming
visible when printed in any context.
The easiest way to insert a zero-width space into OpenOffice.org Writer
is to enter CTRL simultaneously with / .
As long as you have field shadings turned on (see View -> Field
shadings), the space will appear as a shaded block which overlaps the
preceding and following character.
To enable a menu item for this, first go to Tools -> Options... ->
Language Settings -> Languages and to assure that the box for “Enabled
for complex text layout (CTL)” is checked. (I don’t see any reason why
this should ever not be checked.) This will provide you with some
entries on the Insert Menu which otherwise won’t appear. You can then
also insert the Zero-width space through Insert -> Formatting Mark ->
No-width optional break.
