Hello George, Unfortunately the template used by OpenOffice when creating a new file is hard-coded, therefore whatever changes you make they will not stick. You can however replace the hard coded template with a template of your own where you can specify the margins most suitable for you (as well as loads of other parameters). It is not the easiest thing to do, but not impossible either. Here's a not so quick step by step procedure: 1 Open a new document 2 Press F11 to open the Styles and Formatting window and select the fourth icon (the tip says "page styles") 3 Right click on Default and select Modify 4 Go to the Page page (second page of the tabbed dialog) and set the margins and any other parameter to your liking 5 close the dialog 6 Select File > Templates > Save and give it a name such as "MyWriterDefault". leave "My template" in the box below selected and press OK 7 Select File > Templates >Organize... Double click on the folder MyTemplate in the left hand side window, then select "MyWriterDefault" which you should find there 8. With the file selected, click on the button Commands and select the last option "Set as default" 9. Close Writer (probably including the quick starter to be on the safe side and you should be done. Try to open writer and see if the margins are ok.
