Suggest: set your page margins to 1cm. Then save this as a template.
File > Templates > Save. Name the template. (My suggestion: my margins.)
Second suggestion: File > Templates > Organize. Double click the My
Templates folder to reveal your template (my margins). Right click on this
template, and select Set As Default Template from the context menu. This
should set your margins at 1cm. (It did for me when I just tried it.)
