G'Day ; Thanks for your prompt reply;
I'm running windows XP SP2 and Open Office 2.3;
I never shut down my computer while any program is running and I do a
virus check, with Trend Micro Internet Security Pro, every second day. What
was happening was sometimes hours after I'd finished with Open Office and
since I've reinstalled it I have no problems, I had run a diagnostic on my
computer and it checked out fine, when I'd uninstalled Open Office there was
no problem in shutting down and the same since reinstalling Open Office, it
seems that the problem was in the closing of the programs because when I
shut down, every application I'd used Open Office for that day opened and
closed, just open then immediatly close, as if the applications had not
closed correctly in the first place (???), There is a good chance that
something had corrupted the program or damaged it in some way, I'm not
conversent enough with programs to know and since the reinstall the issue is
resolved I thought I'd just let you know incase there is a weakness in the
program .
It's a very good program and I do enjoy using it, I'm always learning
about it and all the uses it can be put to. You have all done very well !!!

Which version of Windows are you running? Which version of OpenOffice? I
have never heard of this behaviour before. Have you run a complete virus
scan recently? Might be an idea ...
Probably not a good idea to shut down the computer while applications are
running anyway. Hibernate, yes; shut down, no.
