Use Save As and select Word 97, 2000 and XP to save the file. Or you can also publish it directly to a PDF file. I like to work on a document in the native OpenOffice format then covert only when I have to send it to someone. Only once have I ever had an issue with someone not being able to open a Word doc I sent, and I just resent it and it was fine.
