Well, inserting an = followed by clicking on other cells with 
interspersed operators does some sort of calculation. And some 
functions at least work (eg sqt() ).

Hovering over the cell displays a popup; F2 allows it to be edited.

The help text for "calculating in text documents" is an interesting 
read.
