During the "save" sequence, there is a field below the file name field, with a drop down arrow, which offers you the option of saving in a variety of formats. If you have been quick on the draw, and saved in default format .odt, simply use File>Save as> this will lead to the same path as the original save, so you can save as .rtf

Enjoy Your Microsoft addicted friends will appreciate, as they will not be likely to add the utility for .odt documents.
