H-8 was the computer (octal keypad, convection cooling [no fan] etc) and really quite a nice system. The H-9 was the video terminal. Both were available only in kit form, so you had the pleasure of building them from the resistors up. Luckily my neighbor (I was living in Japan at the time) also bought one (H-8 & H-9) so I had company. I eventually upgraded to 32K of memory and the system was operational & used up until I donated it about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, when I donated the Heathkit, I also gave away the original library of all issues of Dr. Dobb's Journal of Computer Calisthenics from issue one. We (HUG dudes) used to tease the Trash-80 guys because they owned pre-built systems.
