Hello JJJ,

I think you are probably making the solution more complicated than
what the problem requires.

If I understand correctly all you want is a nested list with arabic
numbers for the first level and letters for the second level.

Open the styles and formatting window F11, go to the List styles page
(fifth icon on top), right click somewhere and select New from the
context menu.

In the Organizer page give it a name (e.g. testQs)
Jump to the Options page, select level 1 on the left and set the
numbering to arabic numbers followed by a dot (write it in the "after"
field. Select level 2 and set the numbering to capital letters
followed by )
Now go to the Position page and set the desired indentation (spacing
of the numbering from the left margin of the page) for level 1 and
level 2. Spacing to text determines the distance between the numbering
field (1,2, A, B etc...) and the text
Done with the style.

Write your questions and apply the style.

If I got the question completely wrong and wrote something that you
