Hi Neil
Normally OOo has no problem opening MS Word documents _except_ the docx
etc type which are the default for MS Office 2007.
From my reading you have a couple of options, ask the sender to use a
compatible format (.doc) or if you are using Windows, install the docx
reader available from MS. At least then you will be able to copy/paste
from the docx files.
