I am running ooo impress on Debian lenny AMD64 and have 2 identical
monitors one hooked up with DVI the other VGA. I am using the radeonhd
xorg video driver in extended mode (i.e. big screen). I can move
windows between screens. I want to run impress in one window and the
slide show in the other. The presentation monitor from slide show->
slide show settings is grayed out. Why won't it let me select the VGA
monitor for my slide show? When I do a slide show it is presented half
on both monitors with the unused outer edges blacked out.

Thanks,

Hi Brent

At a guess this is related to your display settings, as your X-server is seeing both displays as a single screen. You would have to set up as two separate screens to achieve what you want. I think you can then select which screen to send the output of impress to.

I have a similar setup to you on a gentoo box, and going to "Slide Show - Settings - Multiple Monitors" the monitor setting is disabled.
