You nee to insert both pictures as linked to the external file (that you
then need to carry along with the presentation).
One alternative (a bit of an overkill) is to create a slide master with the
picture in it and then apply that slide master to the two slides where the
picture is used, while applying the "normal" slide master to the other
slides.
Can I point out that even if a given image file is included multiple
times on different slides, nevertheless only a /single/ copy is
stored within the presentation .odp file?
External links are a right pain.....
