You're right. One thing to watch for though, is that the Mac version
puts only an icon for Writer on the desktop. You can click on that and
then create any document type from there. Once she's using OpenOffice,
you should be able to read whatever she creates with it.
The Mac version does not put an icon on the desktop. After installing,
you open it from the applications folder.
