That's what I thought, but - interestingly - it's not entirely true. There are some circumstances where OpenOffice will choose to open a .csv file in Writer instead of in Calc, which is not what the enquirer needs. (This is true, at least, with my 2.3.1 under XP.) So - unusually - the association needs to be made explicitly with Calc (or "scalc", of course).
