Hi,

At present the standard version of OpenOffice cannot open or save documents
in MS Office 2007 format (this functionality will be available with version
3.0.

The format used by OOo is an ISO standard and I think that Microsoft has
made a plugin available to read documents saved in the Open Document Format.

Actually, the Sun ODF plug-in is better.
