In OOo 2.3 I see that I can make table with two keyboard shortcuts: 1) +++ 2) ||| These methods give me tables with columns so thin that I must resize them with the mouse, negating the usefulness of the keyboard shortcut.

It seems that the idea is that you separate these characters by hyphens or tabs to indicate the widths of the columns you need.

How can I configure OOo to create a table the width of the page, as it does with the Create Table icon?

One way would be to put a right tab at the right margin and the type plus-tab-plus. But that would probably not count as a shortcut!

And what is the difference between these shortcuts?

Don't know. I suspect none. The help text mentions only plus signs, hyphens, and tabs, but lots of other characters appear to work.

I tried finding the differences in the documentation, but I could not find it. So feel free to RTFM me with the exact location, it will be appreciated.

This is an element of AutoCorrect, so there is a setting at Tools | AutoCorrect... | Options | Create table. And there is an entry in the help text at AutoCorrect function;options.

I trust this helps.
