That is incorrect. OpenOffice.org *can indeed* open Lotus 1-2-3 wk1,
wks, and 123 files. However, there were/are some issues with OOo 2.3.1
and 123 files. I believe most, if not all have been resolved in the
soon-to-be-released OOo 2.4.0. For example, the test 123 file in this
bug report will not open in OOo 2.3.1, but opens just fine in the OOo
2.4.0rc4 version that I am testing.

So, you can stay with Lotus Symphony, or watch the
http://www.openoffice.org/ for the new OOo 2.4.
Added Note: Lotus Symphony is based on OpenOffice.org & actually uses an
older version of OOo.
