OpenOffice is indeed free, if you get it from the OpenOffice site www.openoffice.org. There are some people who have decided to sell it and do so legally. Those who sell it on a CD provide a service for those who cannot download it On the other hand, I consider those charging for nothing more than a download link to be a scam.


I have never installed from a vendor's CD, but there should be an installer somewhere. Perhaps you could contact the vendor for advise.


Also, please be aware that some vendors try to pass off this mail list as "paid support". That is a fraudulent. We are volunteers, who try to help others with OpenOffice. We do not receive so much as a nickel from anyone for this.
