Subject: [users] had to reinstall openoffice due to computer malfunction
Dear Users:
I started to use the Open Office suite last month and was glad to contribute
$49.00 went I downloaded the program. Open Office is terrific, much better
then MS Office (which I have used for about 10 years). However, last
Saturday, March 8, 2008 my hard drive crashed due to a corruption in the
Windows XP operating system and during servicing the Open Office program was
not backed up and therefore I lost the program. Today, March 15, 2008 I
downloaded Open Office 2.3.1and installed it on my system. My question is-
will I still be notified of Open Office updates and new products from Sun
Microsystems even though this second download was free? When I downloaded
the program last month and contributed toward its development the site
informed me that updates and new products would be sent to my email address
automatically. Please let me know if this is still valid.
Thank you.
Cordially,
Richard E. Iwanowski

Hi Richard,
Since OpenOffice.org is a free program to download, free to use, and free to
distribute, the $45 you donated was to somebody that probably had nothing to
do with Open Office. He probably told you this list was free support, which
it is provided by volunteers that do not charge for their work. If you
click on HELP you will see that you can check for updates anytime you want
and if there is one you can download it for free anytime you want.
