I use openoffice.org version 2.3. I can open Microsoft word documents without any problem, but when I try to open .pptx files (Microsoft 2007 powerpoint files) it just brings up a list of about 50 different software products. I tried clicking on OpenOffice project and I tried a few others, but it wouldn't load the file. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do ? Thanks for the help
Standard OpenOffice.org does not currently support any of the new Microsoft 2007 file formats. Support has been announced for a new release later this year.
You can get currently get an OOMXL translator from http://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=GuM6LMM9SR4~ which will work with Novell versions of OpenOffice.org, SuSe Linux versions, and some versions of (K)ubuntu .
You may be able to load the file into Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer 2007 free from http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Other-Office-Tools/PowerPoint-Viewer.shtml , do copy all, and then paste the results into OpenOffice.org Impress.
Or you can ask the person who provided the file to send it to you in the an earlier format.
