Hello,

As far as I understand your question, you're probably trying to read/edit
files that were made with the MS Office 2007 and saved in the new lock-in
docx/xlsx/ppsx format.
At present the current OpenOffice.org version doesn't read/edit/save in that
format yet.
The best option is to ask that the people that send you these files save
them in the 'old' doc/xls/pps format.
There's a viewer available I believe, and some 'sophisticated' OOo version
can already experimentally read/edit/save in the format, but the official
version will be able to later this year.
