The 'Versions...' menu item is grayed out for new documents until after
you save a document the first time. After you have saved it, the
Versions... menu item should be available for you to use.
I save it, closed writer and reopened it, opened the doc, and added a line.
Clicked "File". "Versions" is still grayed out.
