I would like to use version control on a text document but "Version"
in the "File" menu is grayed out.
How do I get it back?
The 'Versions...' menu item is grayed out for new documents until
after you save a document the first time. After you have saved it,
the Versions... menu item should be available for you to use.
I save it, closed writer and reopened it, opened the doc, and added a
line.
Clicked "File". "Versions" is still grayed out.
???
Let me take a guess -- are you saving it in MS Word format? If so, you
can't version it. You can only version it if you save it as an odt file.
I don't know if this is what's going on, but at one of my places of
employment, where OpenOffice is used, a secretary contacted me about not
being able to version a document. I discovered it was because she was
saving it as an MS Word document. Once she saved it as an odt file, she
could version it.
