Yes. By default OpenOffice treats .pps files the same as .ppt files - it
opens them in "edit" mode. OpenOffice needs an "extension" to play .pps
files *automatically*. It's free at
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/ImpressRunner
Once you have downloaded it, do Tools>Extension Manager>Add ... and
browse to where you downloaded the file.
