What's likely happening, is you're sending the attachments in the
default ISO standard ODF file formats and the recipient only has
Microsoft Office. Since Microsoft refuses to support ODF, you'll have
to do one of 3 things.
1) Get the recipient to install OpenOffice.
2) Get the recipient to install the Sun ODF plugin, which adds ODF
support to Microsoft Office.

3) Send the files in Microsoft Office format or PDF. You can use Save
as, to save a file in the desired format or send directly from
OpenOffice by clicking on File > Send and then chose the format you wish.
