OpenOffice does not include an email function. Many people find
Thunderbird works well. There is also the Lightning calendar extension
available for it. Both are available from www.mozilla.org. While
you're there, you might also want to download Firefox, which is an
excellent browser and can be used instead of Internet Explorer.
