Thank you both very much, for answering my request for help with the Subject. While waiting for your answer, I found a way of viewing the .pps attachments from MS VISTA mail: 1) Copy or save the .pps attachment into either a DVD-RW drive E: or under Document files in C: (I used dragging) 2) Open OO.o 2.4 Impress, click "Open Existing Presentation", an OO.o Impress window shows: OO.o 2.4 Error loading template, incorrect format, file cannot be used as template. Click OK. Then click OPEN (same OO.o 2.4 window),go to Look: Open menu of files, click under DVD-RW drive E: or Documents drive C: pick the .pps file you wish to see. Double click it and you'll see it in the OO.o 2.4 Impress window. Go to View (Menu Bar), open it and click at "Slide Show" in the menu, and voila' the .pps slides will show.
From there you can modify the .pps file or add music or text if you wish.
You end it and discard if no changes have been made.

A quicker alternate is, as Brian Barker recommended, to download/install a MS Office Power Point Viewer 2007 and view the attachment saved/copied in the DVD-RW (E:) or any other files, directly, but you won't be able here to make any modifications.

Again, thank you both for your respective inputs. They have been very useful!

I am using version 2.4 of OpenOffice.org since I installed it on 04/03/08. Now, I am not able to view e-mail attachments written in Microsoft Office Power Point. I get a pop-up window saying as follows: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations Control Panel" , which I can't find in the Control Panel! I use Windows VISTA Home Premium.

Q: How can I use OpenOffice.org 2.4 Impress to open the e-mail attachments written in .pps format?

That sort of problem often occurs, if the file does not have a valid extention. If so, just rename it, to include an extension. Also, what happens if you save the file and then double click on it? If it opens that way, then there may be some issue with your email application.

In XP, you can easily change the file associations by following these instructions. I assume similar applies in Vista.

Changing file associations

Right click on file icon
Select Open With > Choose Program...
Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and choose the desired application.
If that method is not available, follow the directions listed here:
