Thanks Neil, I should look past the shouting :-(
It is not clear whether he wants a vertical or horizontal ruler.
I have both enabled in writer, and the _vertical_ ruler appears in a
Calc document, but not the horizontal. I haven't played with turning it
off - using OOo 2.4 on linux.
