save it and then delete the whole business
then reinstall outlook express or it's likeness (ie: from openoffice.org?)

I had that problem several times last year before I switched from Outlook
97 to Thunderbird. I have not had the problem at all since the switch
over. The only way I could delete the stuck email was to go to my ISP's
website, log into my account, and delete the file there. The next time I
opened up Outlook, the file was not there to download, and Outlook wasn't
frozen. But like I said earlier, I haven't had that problem since I
switched to Thunderbird.
