Assuming it's the actual OpenOffice and not bastardized the installation 
doesn't currently create desktop or quick launch icons in most OS's.  If 
you have a Programs folder, look there for the OOo programs. 
Alternatively you can go to program files and create shortcuts right 
from there.  e.g. writer is swriter.exe, etc..

Depending on what you paid for it, OOo is open source and thus free to 
download; no charges, no license hassles, etc., it might be worth 
returning for a refund and getting the free version, which 99.9% of the 
time is identical to the selling version.  Sometimes however people will 
bundle things together with OOo to make it more useful, so check it all 
out if you look into returning it.
