Hello David,
I wonder if someone can help me with this problem, i an using openoffice
on a linux based computor and i cannot get the spell checker to work. It
does not draw red lines under misspelt words and does not correct in
manual mode.
I have attached 2 screen dumps which swows no language selected in the
manual dialogue box and no laguage modules available in the writing aids
dialogue box. Its as if the modules are missing.I wish to check in
english(uk) and have selected this where required.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi David
Your screenshots actually reached the list, most attachments don't.
Unfortunately you haven't shown us the settings for Languages - is the
Document language set to English (UK) and are you sure you have the
appropriate dictionary installed? Should be a File-Wizards-Install new
dictionaries if not. I think English UK is normally available in the OOo
download, but I don't know what Debian do with theirs.

As Russel said (and is explained in the link) you need a spell check
dictionary of that language. For example English US should be available
by default.
And the second screen shot you posted shows only the existence of a
"user-defined" dictionary. Those are for 'customizing' the already
existing spell check dictionary for that language to a small extend.
You can not use them on their own. They get checked as well when you
already have a working dictionary for that language...
Regards,
Thomas
I received a reply off list that he didn't have the appropriate
dictionary installed.
