Impress has a problem with embeded PPS sound if it is an mp3. I've run
accross this problem before (linux & Win Impress). If the embeded file
is an actual .wav file, it generally works. If the file is .wav, you
will be able to see the file by opening Slide Transition and looking
under "Sound". For example; the 'let it snow' pps in this bug report:

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=84819

will play just fine using Impress Windows, you'll even be able to see
the "Let it Snow! Dean Martin" sound/wav file. For some reason it goes
wonky in linux Impress (Ubuntu OOo 2.4 and standard OOo 2.4). I _think_
but not sure yet, is that the wav file name has spaces in it. Sorry,
that is not really good PPS file for example, but I pointed you to that
so you can see bug reports filed on this issue.

There are ways to extract the mp3 file from the pps (and sometimes
they've named to make it appear as a wav) but you need MS PowerPoint to
do it.
