Are you ... asking, for example, how do I set all column widths to XXX for /this/ spreadsheet, and format all numbers with 2dp precision? If so, I think it's a case of selecting the whole spreadsheet and applying the settings you want - although that's obviously /very/ gross when there's a mix of data types (eg a date formatted as a floating point number is not good!), it works for column widths and rows heights.

Close, Mike. Actually, I was asking how to do such settings for the *default* (as opposed to *all*). The difference arises, for example, when you have already defined, say, a number of columns and rows, and - recognizing a pattern - want to change defaults in order to minimize the formatting required as the content is extended into new columns and rows. Calc clearly has default settings, but apparently no design concept of "default" as opposed to "user-set" values.

For example, with a column-width "default" flag (TRUE if default, FALSE if user has set a value) - or, conversely, a "user-set" flag - it is possible to change the default column width only for columns where the user has not specified something other than the default. Without such a flag (which is used in my favorite spreadsheet programs, but apparently not in Calc), one is forced into the more clumsy tedium of Select_All, make the general change, then repair the exceptions again.

Thanks for trying to help me get to an answer,
- John
