It was a Mexican coin. Numerous references to it may be found in
old western movies.
And the old jingle with a tune: "Shave and a haircut, two bits!"
Of course now it's "Shave and a haircut, ten bucks" (if you're lucky)
You would need to be real lucky. Most barbers will not even do shaves
anymore.
I'm sure that most don't, but the one two blocks from me still does.
He's an aged, and old fashioned barber.... which is a breed that's
fast becoming extinct. He'll probably be retiring soon....
